Thoughts

Dear Roger, Caroline, Christopher, Brian and Janet. I cannot begin to imagine how you are feeling today. I know I was so shocked I had to read the email more than once, as only having met with Sue and Roger 3 weeks before in Henley. I am so grateful for being with you on that day and thankful that we didn't put it off until the next time you came over, which I couldn't do due to Jury Service, that leads me to say that I am so terribly sorry that I cannot be with you on Friday. When we met the other week Sue was so excited to hear about my craft activities and was rapidly writing down things I had done so that she could do the same with her grandchildren. Sue was a wonderful person and a very kind, lovely and loyal friend of 50 years who will be greatly missed. She had so much living left to do. Chris Eccles

It says a lot about Sue that she is still well remembered from the late 1960's when she came to the Blue Door Cirencester as one of many part-time waitresses needed for copious 'Outside' Catering functions. She was 'Front staff' perfect in fact and more, for much was unseen by guests. Always listed on the job sheet as 'Mrs Dyer' by me (as Manager), I know how well she immediately fitted in with this most difficult and often arduous work. She was always extremely smart, very keen and popular with other staff, any one of whom (from the Beeches?) may have first encouraged her to give it a try. Her humour was absolutely paramount, although she was alert to guests being what it was really all about. One sensed that her early private family situation was clearly a treasured one. Three score and ten is, sadly, much too short but I am reassured from what I read that she clearly gave of her best in all those years. Her family has to be very proud. Robert Jeanes
